New Westminster Family Place is a family resource program for families with children from newborn to five years old. Our philosophy focuses on providing services for families. We invite parents and grandparents to bring their children and grandchildren to our programs but because of limited space we cannot accommodate daycares, nannies or babysitters.
We are a member of the BC Association of Family Resource Programs.
The mandate for the society is “to promote, encourage and provide family related services and learning skills programs with a preventative and educational focus aimed at low income individuals.”
New Westminster Family Place was opened in 1989 after 3 years of planning and fundraising with the help of the Public Health Unit and the Interagency Committee.
This service was seen as necessary to the community, providing support services to isolated families with young children.
Operating funds come from the Ministry for Children and Family Development, Fraser Health Authority, Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General – Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch, and various forms of fundraising events as well as donations.
We also receive funding from the United Way of the Lower Mainland, are registered under the Society Act and have charity status with Revenue Canada.
